Default Necromancer pvp

So, I'm pretty much brand new to this game. I've had for a week but I only got to play a couple hours. My character is a level 5 necromancer. I have two questions, well three. First I have skill points to spend, how should I spend them (I'm going for a pvp build)? If I dont like how they've been spent, can I change it around? Lastly, what would be a good secondary profession to choose if I want to deal damage / support in pvp?
-Thanks for all the help

Observations and answers to your questions:
  • Guild Wars is not World of Warcraft.
  • You can use PvP charactars to play PvP. They are at the least equal to a PvE character while PvPing. They're also much easier to properly equip for PvP, which in many peoples minds makes them superior to PvE characters if your goal is PvP, since you don't have to spend time obtaining the skills you need, and the gear you need in PvE.
  • Once you purchase a skill for a PvE character, you can not un-learn that skill, nor can that skill point be refunded. However, PvE characters may gain an unlimited number of skill points. If you buy a skill that is worthless, it's not going to totally screw over your character. However, you will waste time and effort if you buy worthless skills.
  • The secondary profession you pick doesn't matter very much. You'll be able to change it at will later on in the game, although a large portion of the PvE community seems to be unaware of that fact, even though it is blatently obvious if you posess the ability to read.
  • If you're looking a for a build you can use with your character in PvP, you might want to check out Observer Mode.
  • If you are absolutly dead set on using your PvE character in PvP, please do everyone a favor and do not do so until your character has all 200 attribute points, is able to play a proper build, and has all the proper equipment for that build.

Oh, it should also be noted that, in a nutshell all Necromancers do in PvP at the moment is spam retarded hexes and make the game less fun for everyone. This is only my viewpoint, and that of alot of the community. Amazingly, there are actually people who argue that playing a hexer requires a high degree of skill and practice, that the template is not imbalanced at all, and that hexes in their current state make for a fun and interesting metagame.

I think that about sums it up... Enjoy playing Guild Wars...

PvE characters are hardly used in PvP unless you spent LOTS of time getting all the perfect gear you need. If you want to play PvP, simply create a PvP character for now.

You can change your attribute points at will in any outpost, so don't hesitate. Just put them where you feel like, and if you wanna try something different just switch around.

You can even change your secondary at will (depends which chapter you have for how easy it is to reach the point where you can though), so don't dwell on it too much.

And while this is really not the good section of the forum (your post will likely be moved), for PvE you'll likely want to be either a Minion Master with Death or a Curse Necromancer with eventually Spiteful Spirit once you can get it.

If you want to play PvP where almost everyone is a bad player, you can feel free to take your PvE necro into places like RA, AB, fort aspenwood, etc. Otherwise, I suggest making a PvP character since you'll be able to have access to much more equipment and skills. Very little people I know use their PvE necro in high level PvP because it's just not worth it. The PvE characters that you'll see in real PvP is generally warriors and monks, since those are staple to almost every build.

Actually, Master Togo says, "Once you decide, you will not be able to change your mind." when you are picking your secondary profession. It's in bold or emphasized in some other way... That really confused me when I was starting out.

i like having my necro be a mesmer secondary because you can combine the two to deal tons of damage. then again the RP part of me loves the idea of hexing my enemies into oblivion.

yeah Togo does say that but Senji thinks differently... he lets you change a secondary profession for 500 per profession change...
you meet Senji in Senji's Corner, to get there you gotta beat the Nahpui Quarters mission(4th mission also the "ascension" mission in factions)

back on topic, unlike diablo and other games you can change your attributes and skills whenever you want so you can play with everything and find what works best for you.
as for necros in PvP, right now the main thing is hexes, but there's also the occasional discord spammers and the famous FoC(feast of corruption) spike as well as even more famous blood spike
